How to Use

For Brown & Black Hair Colour (with Henna Powder)

  1. Prepare the Henna (if required)
Apply Henna Powder first if you want brown or black hair. Rinse thoroughly before applying Indigo Powder.
  2. Mix the Indigo Paste
Mix Indigo Powder with warm water to form a smooth, lump-free paste. Use immediately for best results.
  3. Apply Evenly
Apply the paste to clean, towel-dried hair, working from the roots to the ends. Cover all hair evenly.
  4. Leave to Develop
Leave on for 1–2 hours, depending on the depth of colour you wish to achieve.
  5. Rinse Thoroughly
Rinse well with water only. Avoid shampooing for 24–48 hours to allow the colour to fully develop.

FAQ

What is Indigo Powder used for?

Indigo Powder is a natural botanical hair dye traditionally used to colour hair without harsh chemical dyes. On its own, it produces a blue-black hue on light or grey hair. When used with Henna Powder, it creates rich brown and black shades while also helping leave hair feeling soft, smooth and conditioned.

How do I use Indigo Powder with Henna Powder?

To achieve brown or black hair colour, apply Henna Powder first and rinse thoroughly. Then prepare a fresh Indigo Powder paste with warm water and apply it to the hair. The length of time you leave the Indigo on will influence the depth of colour, from warm brown to deep black.

Can Indigo Powder cover grey hair?

Yes. Indigo Powder is widely used with Henna Powder to help cover grey hair naturally. Henna provides the base colour, while Indigo develops richer brown or black shades, creating more even-looking grey hair coverage without conventional chemical hair dyes.

Does Indigo Powder turn hair blue?

When used on its own, Indigo Powder can produce a blue or blue-black hue, particularly on light, white or grey hair. This is why it is commonly used after Henna Powder to achieve natural-looking brown and black hair colour instead of blue tones.

Is Indigo Powder a PPD-free and chemical-free hair dye?

Yes. Pure Indigo Powder is a PPD-free and chemical-free botanical hair dye made from finely ground Indigofera tinctoria leaves. It offers a natural alternative to many conventional permanent hair dyes for those looking to avoid synthetic colourants.

How long does Indigo Powder hair colour last?

Results vary depending on your hair type, hair condition and washing routine. In general, botanical hair colour gradually fades over several weeks and can be refreshed with repeat applications to maintain the desired shade.

Can I use Indigo Powder on chemically treated hair?

Indigo Powder is suitable for most hair types, including coloured or chemically treated hair. For best results, carry out a strand test before full application, as previous chemical treatments may influence the final colour achieved.

Is Indigo Powder suitable for all hair types?

Yes. Indigo Powder can be used on straight, wavy, curly and coily hair. When used correctly, it provides a natural botanical hair colouring option while helping leave hair feeling conditioned, softer and easier to manage.

Can indigo powder be mixed with other herbal powders?

Indigo powder works well with Henna, Amla, Bhringraj, Neem, and Shikakai. These combinations enhance colour results while supporting scalp health, strength, and shine, creating a complete herbal hair care ritual.

Who should avoid using indigo powder on hair?

People with very light, bleached, or chemically treated hair should use indigo to dye hair carefully. A strand test is essential, as the blue pigments may react unpredictably. Choosing high-quality, pure indigo ensures safer and more consistent results.
