Natural Body Lotion, Chosen for Your Skin Type
Shins that look ashy by February? Elbows that never quite soften, or skin that feels tight again by lunchtime? A good body lotion helps with all of that, as long as it suits your skin. We make three, each built around a plant from Ayurveda: turmeric, sandalwood or neem. Our shea butter body lotion with turmeric is the richest of the three. The Sandalwood lotion is lighter and quick to sink in, and the Neem lotion is the lightest, for skin that tends to get oily.
What's the Best Body Lotion for Your Skin Type?
| Your skin type | Product | Fragrance | Key ingredients |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dull or tired-looking, and wants something rich | Turmeric & Shea Butter | Citrus | Our richest lotion: Shea and Cocoa Butter with Sweet Almond, organic Argan and Babassu oils, plus Turmeric root, Vitamin C, Papaya and Amla. It's also our vitamin C body lotion for a brighter-looking glow. |
| Dry, rough or sensitive | Sandalwood (Hydrating) | Warm sandalwood and amber | Our lighter Sandalwood lotion, with Glycerin, Witch Hazel water, Babassu and Jojoba oils, scented with Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli and Lavender. More in our range for dry skin. |
| Tight and dull, but not flaky | Sandalwood (as above) | Warm sandalwood and amber | Skin that's short on water feels tight even when it isn't rough. Glycerin helps here: see our picks for dehydrated skin. |
| Normal to oily, or prone to the odd spot | Invigorating (Neem) | Wild mint and eucalyptus | Our lightest, the Invigorating Neem lotion: Witch Hazel water, organic neem seed oil, Neem leaf, Moringa oil, organic Tea Tree and Nettle. Moisture without a heavy feel, and a good partner for our care for blemish-prone skin. |
Lotion, Body Cream or Body Moisturiser: What's the Difference?
People use the words loosely, and that's fine. A lotion has more water in it, so it's lighter and sinks in quickly. A body cream is thicker and richer, with more oils and butters, so it suits rough, dry patches. Body moisturiser is the catch-all name for both. Our Turmeric lotion, with its shea and cocoa butter, sits nearest a cream. The Sandalwood and Neem lotions are lighter, the kind you can put on in the morning and get dressed straight away. Every one is a natural body moisturiser made with plant oils and butters, and none contains mineral oil.
Why Choose Our Lotions
- Choose by skin type or by fragrance. Rich, lighter or lightest, in citrus, warm sandalwood and amber, or wild mint and eucalyptus. Each matches the wash, scrub and sets from the same range.
- Plants you can name. Each Ayurvedic body lotion we make starts with turmeric, sandalwood or neem, all used in Ayurveda for centuries, and adds plant oils such as Jojoba, Argan and Babassu.
- Vegan and PETA certified. Every bottle is a vegan body lotion, cruelty-free and PETA certified.
- Dermatologically tested and made in the UK. All three lotions carry both badges. We're a UK family business with over 40 years behind us.
- Fairly priced. Our Turmeric lotion feels like a luxury body lotion, with free UK delivery over £40.
How to Use Body Lotion, Step by Step
All three labels say the same thing: put it on after your shower, while your skin is clean and still slightly damp.
| Step | How often | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Shower or bath | Daily | Wash in warm water with a natural body wash. Very hot water leaves skin feeling tight. |
| 2. Pat dry | Daily | Pat, don't rub, and leave your skin a little damp. Lotion spreads further on damp skin. |
| 3. One body part at a time | Daily | Massage a small amount in circles over one arm or leg before moving on, so it doesn't dry before you've spread it. |
| 4. Extra on elbows, knees and heels | Daily | The skin here is thicker and dries out first. A second small layer helps. |
| 5. Exfoliate | Up to twice a week, as your scrub's label says | An exfoliating body scrub clears away dead skin so your lotion spreads evenly. Skip broken, sore or freshly shaved skin. |

What Helps Skin Stay Soft Between Showers?
- Keep the bottle by the shower. If it's in the bedroom drawer, you'll forget. Within a few minutes of drying off is the sweet spot.
- Turn the water down a notch. Warm showers leave skin far more comfortable than very hot ones.
- Don't forget your feet. A little extra on your heels at night, then cotton socks, makes a real difference by morning.
- Watch the heating. Central heating dries the air in winter. A bowl of water near the radiator, or a few minutes less in a hot bath, helps more than you'd think.
- Patch test first. All our lotions contain essential oils and fragrance, so try a little on your inner arm before using it all over.
