Ayurvedic Hair Care, Rooted in Tradition
Ayurveda has looked after hair the same way for thousands of years. Oil the scalp before you wash, cleanse with plant herbs, and choose your herbs for the problem in front of you. Our ayurvedic hair care follows that thinking. Our ayurvedic hair care products each start with a traditional herb, such as bhringraj, amla, neem or shikakai, and each has one clear job, whether that's hair fall, dandruff, frizz or fine, flat hair.
This page brings all our natural hair products together: shampoos, conditioners, hair oils, hair powders and plant-based hair dye. Every one is vegan, cruelty-free and PETA certified, so if you're looking for vegan hair products or cruelty free hair products, anything here fits the bill.

Building an Ayurvedic Hair Care Routine
A good ayurvedic hair care routine is simple, and the oil comes first. The word shampoo itself comes from the Hindi champo, the head massage that Ayurveda has always paired with oiling.
| Step | How Often | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Oil before you wash | Once or twice a week | Massage a hair oil into your scalp for 5–10 minutes. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes, or overnight, then wash. |
| 2. Shampoo | As your shampoo's label says | Massage a shampoo for your concern into the scalp, then rinse well. |
| 3. Condition | After every shampoo | Apply from the mid-lengths to the ends and leave it on for the time on the label. |
| 4. A weekly mask (optional) | Once or twice a week | Mix amla or hibiscus powder into a paste and apply it to the scalp and hair before washing. Follow the directions on the pack. |
| 5. Keep going | At least three months | Hair grows about 1 cm a month, so give any routine time before you judge it. |

What to Look for in Natural Hair Care Products
- Made for your concern. The best natural hair care products are made for one job. A shampoo for dandruff and a shampoo for fine hair need different herbs.
- Cold-pressed oils. Look for cold-pressed plant oils in any hair oil or carrier oil. All of ours are.
- Claims you can check. Natural shouldn't mean untested. Look for products that show what they've been tested for. Ours are on each product page.
- Proof of vegan and cruelty-free. PETA certification is the easiest way to check you're buying cruelty free hair products: it means a product and its ingredients aren't tested on animals. All our ayurvedic hair products carry it.
Ayurvedic Hair Care for UK Conditions
- Hard water. Much of England has hard water, which can leave hair feeling rough. A pre-wash oil and a good conditioner help keep it soft.
- Winter. Central heating dries out hair and scalp from October to March. Oil once or twice a week through the colder months.
- Seasonal oils. Ayurveda traditionally sees coconut oil as cooling and sesame oil as warming, so many people use coconut in summer and sesame in winter.
