Natural Face Toners and Rose Water for Every Skin Type
Do you need a toner, or is it one bottle too many on the bathroom shelf? Fair question. A good one makes the rest of your routine feel better. A face toner lifts the last traces of cleanser, leaves your skin feeling fresh, and gives your moisturiser a clean base to sit on. Some of ours also smooth the surface with a mild acid, while others simply add a splash of moisture. We make six, so choose by how your skin feels on an ordinary Tuesday. Tight after washing? Our hydrating toner is the place to start. Shiny by lunchtime? The Oil Control Toner keeps things fresh. Looking a little tired? Try our Turmeric & Papaya toner. And if you'd like to keep it really simple, our rose water toner is the gentlest of the lot, with no acids at all.
Which Face Toner Suits Your Skin?
| How your skin feels | Our pick | Why it suits you |
|---|---|---|
| Dull, tired-looking or a little uneven | Turmeric & Papaya Glow Toner | Our brightening toner, with Glycolic Acid (an AHA), Papaya, Turmeric, amla extract (a natural source of vitamin C) and Aloe Vera. The CO2-extracted turmeric has been clinically evaluated: over 8 weeks, skin tone looked noticeably more even and more radiant. Dermatologically tested. Wear sunscreen by day. |
| Dry, tight or dehydrated | Hydrating Face Toner | Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe Vera, Oat and Calendula with Sandalwood, plus a touch of Lactic Acid and Willow Bark for gentle smoothing. Skin feels softer and more comfortable as soon as it sinks in. Wear sunscreen by day. |
| Shiny by lunchtime, with the odd spot | Oil Control Toner | Our PHA toner: Gluconolactone, Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera, Neem leaf and Nettle. It feels cool, dries quickly and leaves no sticky finish. |
| Sensitive, or new to toners | Rose Hydrolat Floral Water | Rose flower water (Rosa Damascena) with no acids, so it's the softest place to begin. |
| Tight by mid-afternoon, at your desk or on the go | Rose Hydrolat Floral Water Spray Mist | The same rose water as our rose water spray mist, with a mild preservative to keep it fresh in your bag. Mist it over bare skin or make-up whenever you like. |
| Any skin type, if you love a classic rose toner | Rose & Glycerin Facial Toner | Our rose and glycerin toner: rose flower water, glycerin, rose geranium, and Clove leaf oils. Light and refreshing, and dry in seconds. Patch test first. |
Why Choose Our Toners and Rose Waters
- A gentle acid for each skin type. Glycolic Acid helps dull skin look brighter, Lactic Acid smooths while hydrating, and the PHA in our Oil Control Toner is one of the mildest exfoliating acids.
- An award winner. Our Turmeric & Papaya Glow Toner won Bronze for Best Toner at the Global Makeup Awards 2021.
- Rose water for the days you want less. Our Floral Water and mist contain no acids, making them a lovely first step if your skin is easily upset or you're new to toners.
- A pleasure to use. Each one has its own light scent, from fresh rose to soft sandalwood, and every product page lists the full ingredients.
- Tested, vegan and made in the UK. Our Glow, Hydrating, and Oil Control toners are dermatologically tested and made in the UK, and everything we make is vegan, cruelty-free, and PETA-certified. Want the whole routine in one box? The Glow and Hydrating toners also come in matching trios among our skincare sets.
How to Use Toner, Step by Step
Toner goes on after you wash and before you moisturise. Here's the order we suggest for morning and evening.
| Step | When | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Cleanse | Morning and evening | Wash with a natural face wash that suits your skin, then pat dry. |
| 2. Tone | Morning and evening | Shake a little onto a cotton pad or into your palms. Sweep or press it over your face and neck, avoiding the eyes, and give it a moment to sink in. |
| 3. Moisturise | Morning and evening | Smooth on a face moisturiser while your skin still feels fresh. |
| 4. Sunscreen | Every morning | Glycolic Acid (Turmeric & Papaya toner) and Lactic Acid (Hydrating Face Toner) can make skin more sensitive to the sun, so finish with your favourite broad-spectrum sunscreen. SPF isn't part of our range. |
| 5. Rose water top-up | Whenever you like | A spritz of our mist freshens skin through the day, over make-up or on bare skin. |
What's Inside Our Toners?
| Ingredient | What it does | Where you'll find it |
|---|---|---|
| Glycolic Acid (AHA) | The smallest of the AHAs. It gently loosens dull surface cells, so skin looks smoother and brighter. If patchy tone is your main concern, see where our glycolic acid toner fits into your routine. | Turmeric & Papaya toner |
| Lactic Acid and Willow Bark | Lactic Acid is a milder AHA that smooths while it hydrates. Willow Bark extract is a plant source of gentle exfoliating compounds. | Hydrating (Sandalwood) toner |
| Gluconolactone (PHA) | One of the gentlest exfoliating acids. It smooths the skin's surface and is easy to use every day. | Oil Control Toner |
| Hyaluronic Acid | Holds water at the skin's surface, so dry skin feels softer and more comfortable. | Hydrating (Sandalwood) toner |
| Rose water (Rosa Damascena) | Loved in Ayurvedic skin care for centuries. Light, cooling, and refreshing, it suits most skin types. | Floral Water, Spray Mist, Rose & Glycerin toner |
| Turmeric, Papaya and Amla | Three Ayurvedic favourites that help skin look brighter and glow fresher. | Turmeric & Papaya toner |
| Witch Hazel and Neem leaf | Witch hazel leaves skin feeling clean and toned. Neem is Ayurveda's go-to herb for shiny skin. | Oil Control Toner |
| Aloe Vera | Cooling and light, so skin feels comfortable after cleansing. | Glow, Hydrating and Oil Control toners |
What Helps When You're Choosing the Best Face Toner?
- Go by an ordinary day. The table above sorts our toners by how skin usually feels. Torn between two? Rose water is the gentlest place to begin. If shine bothers you most, see how our toner for oily skin fits into a full Oil Control routine.
- Patch test first. Our acid toners and the Rose & Glycerin toner contain active ingredients and plant oils. Dab a little on your inner arm and wait 24 hours before using it on your face.
- One acid toner at a time. Pick one and give it a few weeks. Save acid toners for days when your skin feels comfortable, and rest it if it's broken, sore, or sunburnt. If one stings or itches, rinse it off and stop using it.
- Sunscreen every morning. After using our Turmeric & Papaya toner or Hydrating Face Toner, finish your morning routine with SPF.
- A light touch. Press or sweep gently with a soft pad. A little goes a long way.
Shop our face toner range above, or build a routine around your skin with our skincare for dry skin, sensitive skin and dull skin. For skin that's lost a little bounce, our Hydrating Face Toner is also the hyaluronic acid toner in our wrinkle range.
