Ayumi Ayurvedic Care for Frizzy Hair
Frizzy hair puffs up the moment the air turns damp, and it rarely has just one cause. Humidity, heat styling, hard water and central heating all roughen the hair's outer layer, so each strand soaks up moisture and swells unevenly. Our frizzy hair products use cold-pressed Ayurvedic oils and conditioning herbs to help with frizz control at every step of your routine. For thick, curly or coily hair, our Coconut Hair Oil for Frizzy & Curly Hair is a dermatologically tested frizzy hair oil. For hair that frizzes because it is dry or damaged, our Ayurvedic Repair Hair Oil for Dry & Damaged Hair is a dermatologically tested hair oil for dry frizzy hair. Our Coconut-Avocado Hair Conditioner softens dry, brittle lengths, and our Volume & Shine Shampoo and Conditioner suit fine hair with dry ends.
What Causes Frizzy Hair?
Knowing what causes frizzy hair helps you choose the right oil and routine. These are the most common frizzy hair causes, and several often add up.
- Humidity. Hair absorbs moisture from damp air and swells, which is why frizzy hair is often worse in summer, after rain and near the coast.
- Dryness. Dry, porous hair soaks up moisture from the air more easily. Central heating dries hair out from October to March, so frizz often gets worse in winter.
- Heat styling and colouring. Heat, bleach and chemical treatments damage the hair's outer layer, leaving it rough and prone to frizz.
- Hard water. Much of England has hard water, which can leave a mineral residue that makes hair feel rough.
- Friction. Rubbing your hair with a towel, brushing it roughly and sleeping on a cotton pillowcase all rough up its surface.
- Curly and coily hair. The scalp's natural oils travel less easily down curly and coily strands, so the lengths tend to be drier. Good curly hair care starts with extra conditioning.

Why Choose Our Ayurvedic Frizzy Hair Products
- Cold-pressed oils for frizz control. Every plant oil we use is cold pressed, on its own or in a blend. Coconut, sesame, castor, olive and sweet almond oils condition the hair, and it tends to feel smoother the more regularly you use them.
- Two oils for two kinds of frizz. Our Coconut Hair Oil is rich and suits thick, curly or coily hair. Our Ayurvedic Repair Hair Oil is for hair that frizzes because it is dry or damaged.
- Lighter options for fine hair. Fine hair frizzes too, but a rich oil can leave it flat. Our Volume & Shine Shampoo and Conditioner are made for fine hair.
- Hair oils without mineral oil, silicones or synthetic fragrance. Both our hair oils are made without them.
- Tested. Both hair oils are dermatologically tested, and the Coconut-Avocado Hair Conditioner is lab tested.
- PETA certified, vegan and cruelty-free. Every product in the range is PETA certified, vegan, cruelty-free and made in the UK.
How to Control Frizzy Hair: Home Remedies
Most of how to control frizzy hair is about keeping it moisturised and handling it less roughly. These home remedies for frizzy hair cost little or nothing, and they make frizz control easier whichever products you use.
- Oil before you wash. A pre-wash hair oil for frizzy hair, left on for at least 1–2 hours or overnight, softens rough lengths.
- Condition after every wash. Conditioner smooths the hair's surface and makes it easier to detangle without breakage.
- Blot, don't rub. Squeeze water out with a microfibre towel or a soft cotton T-shirt instead of rubbing.
- Detangle gently. Use a wide-tooth comb on damp, conditioned hair, working up from the ends. For curly hair care, scrunch rather than brush.
- Silk or satin at night. A silk or satin pillowcase or hair wrap causes less friction than cotton.
- Turn down the heat. Use heat styling less often and at a lower temperature.
Building a Frizzy Hair Routine
| Step | How Often | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Pre-wash frizzy hair oil: Coconut Hair Oil (thick, curly or coily hair) or Ayurvedic Repair Hair Oil (dry or damaged hair) | Once or twice a week | Leave for at least 1–2 hours, or overnight, then wash out with shampoo. |
| 2. Shampoo | Every wash | Use a shampoo suited to your hair type. For fine hair, use the Volume & Shine Shampoo, massaged into the scalp and roots. |
| 3. Condition | After every wash | Fine hair: the Volume & Shine Conditioner on the mid-lengths and ends for 3–5 minutes. Dry, thick or curly hair: the Coconut-Avocado Hair Conditioner for 2–5 minutes. |
| 4. Deeper conditioning (optional) | When hair feels extra dry | Apply the Coconut-Avocado Hair Conditioner to wet hair before shampooing, leave for 5 minutes, rinse, then shampoo. |
| 5. Dry gently | Every wash | Blot with a microfibre towel and keep heat styling to a minimum for better frizz control. |
What to Look for in Frizzy Hair Products
- The right weight. When you pick the best oil for frizzy hair, match it to your hair. A rich frizzy hair oil suits thick, curly and coily hair, while fine hair needs something lighter.
- Cold-pressed oils. Cold pressing extracts oil without heat or chemical solvents. Every plant oil we use is cold pressed.
- No mineral oil. Mineral oil sits on the surface of the hair. We don't use it.
- A pre-wash oil. An oil that goes on before you wash has time to soften the lengths, then rinses out, so your hair isn't left greasy.
- Testing. Look for an anti frizz oil that has been dermatologically tested, as both our hair oils have.
Frizz Control in UK Weather
- Humidity. Damp, humid days are the main cause of daytime frizz. Humidity frizz control starts with well-conditioned hair, so use a pre-wash hair oil for frizzy hair once or twice a week.
- Central heating. From October to March, use your pre-wash oil twice a week and condition after every wash.
- Hard water. In hard-water areas, rinse thoroughly and always follow shampoo with conditioner.
