FAQ

Why do I have dandruff?

A yeast called Malassezia furfur lives on almost everyone's skin. It feeds on the oils your scalp produces, and when it grows faster than your skin can shed, you get flaking.
It isn't about hygiene, which is the thing most people quietly worry about. Some of us simply produce more oil, or react more strongly to something that's sitting there on everyone.

Can dandruff cause hair loss?

No, dandruff itself doesn't cause hair loss. It's a common worry, and an understandable one when you can see flakes on your shoulders.
What can do damage is constant scratching, so it's worth calming the itch rather than putting up with it. If you're noticing hair loss alongside the flaking, that's worth a chat with your GP rather than assuming the two are linked.

How do you get rid of dandruff fast?

There's no overnight fix, but you can speed things up. Oil the scalp before washing so flakes soften rather than needing to be scrubbed off, and give the shampoo a full minute on the scalp.
Rushing the wash is the single most common reason people decide a product hasn't worked for them.

Can dandruff be cured permanently?

Managed rather than cured, and that's not a cop-out. The yeast behind it lives on everyone's skin permanently, so the goal is keeping it in balance.
The good news is that flare-ups usually become rarer and milder once you've got a routine you'll actually stick with.

How do you stop dandruff coming back?

Keep going after the flakes clear. That's where most people slip, understandably, because the problem looks solved.
Build-up feeds flaking, so don't stretch washes too far, and treat the scalp as skin that needs looking after rather than something you fix once and forget.

How do you relieve an itchy scalp?

Usually by dealing with the dryness sitting underneath it. A pre-wash oil softens the tight, uncomfortable areas, and clearing build-up takes away what's feeding the irritation.
Scratching makes it worse, though nobody's ever stopped just because they were told to. Getting ahead of the itch is the more realistic approach.

How do I treat a dry scalp?

Gently, and with a bit of patience. Very hot water and frequent washing both make it worse, so ease off where you can, and oil the scalp before washing rather than trying to repair it afterwards.
Worth knowing: a dry scalp gives fine flakes and a tight feeling, while dandruff flakes are larger and slightly oily. Plenty of people have both.

Do I need all three products?

They're created to work together. The shampoo on its own will help, but it cleans thoroughly enough to dry out the lengths, and dry hair is the usual reason people give up on a dandruff routine before it's had a chance.
The oil softens flakes before you wash, and the conditioner keeps hair soft without leaving residue at the roots.
